Hey everybody,

I'm traveling to Santa Fe, NM with my roommate, who has two conventions to attend.

This is a lucky chance to go there and see lots of great woodworking. I intend to visit woodworkers and galleries, and I'll have 5 days to kill.

I hope to meet someone from the area who can tell me a little about Santa Fe and woodworking there, and I hope to meet some skilled woodworkers and wood turners, not to mention anybody who works in any medium including painting, patina, textures, etc.

I've seen plenty of fine work done by women - Scarpino, Klein, many others. I hope to meet some skilled women in woodworking. Maybe I can meet some in Santa Fe! Can anyone give me some help with this?

I worked with one artist producing pieces that were in galleries nationwide, I have all the tools to do just about anything from welding to woodworking to turning. I'm interested in all areas of woodworking - inlay, marquetry, intarsia, veneers, dovetails, turning, boxes (!) - I really love boxes.

Thanks in advance for your help, I really look forward to this trip! E-mail me if you have any advice!

Roger,

I just got my computer fixed and saw your post. If you are picking up mail from NM and get this, call me at 505-867-1293 or 505-867-1295. I live between Santa Fe and Albuquerque.

There is a wonderful book -- Rio Grande High Style Furniture Craftsmen -- that shows the work of many of the best woodworkers in the area (and we have lots!).

Try Ernest Thompson on Guadalupe Street in Santa Fe for a starter on the unique stuff from our part of the country.
