Hi Ladies,

I am new to this board. I have been looking high and low for furniture design school/classes in the Maryland metro area. I have found a few miscelleanous classes but they have been very pricey and the do not include design. This is really my dream but I can't seem to find anything near by... Help!! Thanks!

Not sure what the "Maryland metro area" is, but I'll guess you mean the DC to Baltimore corridor. First person I'd ask is John Alexander of Green Woodworking fame ( John's web site (http://www.greenwoodworking.com/) ). I'd love to have taken a class with him, but alas, he's no longer teaching. However, he would know about local woodworkers who teach.

Other than that, I'd bet most community colleges have woodworking programs.

Hi and welcom.
You did not mention how much experience you have. If you are totaly new to woodworking I would suggest some night classes, which will give you exposure to tools, woods etc.

I feel that in order to designe you need a good back ground in the construction of the type of items you want to make.

There are many resources which you can use, books on furniture and furniture designe, millwork, etc. Books have a big advantage, they are yours, and always at your finger tips. Magazines are another excellent resource. Books on interior designe. There are more and more videos being made that give you a visual hands on approach.

Now that you have decided to buy all the books and mags, and videos, you will need to designe and build a storage system for them which will allow for expansion;-)

Best of luck and hang in there
