There has already been some discussion on the forum about user names and how we identify ourselves. For some there is a justifiable concern about remaining anonymous on the web. The new software requires a last name be put in that field, but there are two things you can do to remain anonymous when filling in that field for the first time:

First just type in your last initial or

Second type in a blank space.

Either will work and when your user profile is brought up only the initial will show or it will be blank if you entered a blank space.

For those of you that have already registered and do not want their last name listed in the profile - go to lobby, click on user. Three options are listed - click on modify your ACCOUNT
information.

Delete your last name and put in either an initial or type a blank space in and hit submit. Go back to the lobby - click on profiles, click on your name and it should now show the change. If it doesn't hit refresh.

As always contact me with questions, comments, concerns.

How do you change User Names?

Raven has a good point about communication using a real name but WIW does not advise the new registrant regarding the choice of a User Name. Remembering passswords is difficult enough so I use the same user name at all sites that require a user name - and that is also my email address. That way I never forget "who I am" even if I forget everything else.

Hi, everybody. First post here - hope I'm not intruding. I don't want to be a misbegotten nuisance.

Uh, anyway - I do exactly what Fred does. I work with 13 different forums on the Web - and if I'm welcome here, I'll make it 14. Lots to learn, lots of stuff I've learned that I'd like to pass on to whomever's interested.

I use the same name everywhere, and people have gotten to know me by that name. It's my office email address.

Well I quess I'll put my 2cents in here too. In the early days when I first got connected, I was warned never to use my real name on the internet, "too many weirdos out there" so I came up with a user name and I use it everywhere on the internet. I honestly have no feelings about what a person calls themselves, I do find it a bit annoying not knowing what gender a person is. Although sometimes you can't tell that by a person's name anyways. Just use what ever name you're comfortable with and happy woodworking.

PS: To all you MALES out there "HAPPY FATHER'S DAY"
