Hi all! Just wanted to take a minute and introduce myself. I am from Illinois (close to the Quad Cities) and have been doing woodworking for almost 2 years. I have the great "previlage" of having my husband teaching me. My current project is a corner post frame and panel pie safe for a customer.
I started out using pallet wood and have done a lot with detressed painted pine. Pallet wood is so hard to get to and hard on the machines but some beautiful wood. Much easier to go to the mill which is about 15 minutes from home.Fell into woodworking by desperation, I am a recovering insurance agent, burned out and couldn't find a decent job so I decided if hubby can build things so could I...I can and right now I am trying to find a market without doing craft shows....someone on this forum said it best...they don't want quality there. They want cute. Any advice is welcomed....
I am forced to take a few days off now due to someone wanting to use my side of the road this morning....Car totaled but I am okay, but I bet I will be sore tomorrow. Hubby is making supper and wondering how he will get a custom trim job done by himself...poor baby. He is a union carpenter by day and teacher of woodworking at night...also he builds what I can't yet. He is very surportive and we have managed to stay married even though there were times I wondered why during my learning period. I know how lucky I am, I can't imagine learning this stuff on your own, it is just kinda making sense to me when I look at plans...
But I am glad I found you.
