Hello,
I've been woodworking full-time for 4 years now. I work alone in my shop and it can get lonely at times, with only dogs for company during the day. So I was quite happy to find this forum. I look forward to learning and contributing at such a welcoming and helpful place.

Are there any of you in the San Francisco bay area looking for interaction beyond computers? I would love to start an informal group for women in woodworking.

Thanks,
Sarah

Sarah,
Loneliness is one of the things I've noticed about my time in the shop. I enjoy the quiet time, but miss the companionship. I have recently moved my shop to an area with other woodworkers and other trades. While I don't do it full time, (yet!) I realize that I need to do something to alleviate the loneliness. I was in the shop today and had finished a project and wanted to tell someone. Maybe you could get out and interact with other woodworkers. I live in Southern Cal, so I'm not close. Hang in there. You're reaching out to others and that's a good thing. I wish you luck in finding others in the San Fran area.

Lynn,
Thanks for your reply! I too enjoy alone time in my shop. In fact, I much prefer to work alone, but then I would like to take a break now and then and talk with other people and see what they are doing or ask questions. Joining a shop with shared space sounds ideal in some ways, but isn't feasible for me financially. Maybe dogs aren't such bad company afterall... And chewing on those bones together could be quite good for my teeth!
