    1st time "Hello to everyone"

I just happened to stumble on this web site. Kudos to the creator! I don't profess to Know it all but I am sure I can offer some advise here & there. I have been involved in many mediums thru my life, one being woodworking. Started as a young child in my Grandfathers shop. Antique restoration, boat building, furniture, cabinets...Should I go on, I can, but wont.

I am a strange woman with a fetish for power tools & shoes. (Can anyone relate?) I can still remember my first equipment purchase: a battery powered screwgun, back then I was elated at the time savings. A good laugh now. That was a long time ago...who's counting the years...Today I have all the tools I could ever want except for a cnc. That one is on my santa list.

Am I the only woman who can relate to this problem, When ever I go somewhere with my husband & ask a question (usually to a man) The salesman answers the question looking at my husband, as if he was the one asking or possibly the one that would understand the answer. Thru the years my husband & I have learned how to put these men in their place, I find it so rude when they do that.

One time my husband had a service repair man go to his business to check out why his heat wasn't working. My husband had to leave before this man was done. When the service tech was finished he proceeded to tell me what he did to fix it. (All that was wrong was that the thermostat was out of level) He started the conversation by comparing a cooking oven thermostat by saying, "you know that dial you turn on your oven at home....(Oh my God, I almost lost it) I wanted to say No I don't know, Do I look like a cook to you. I think it is hard for some men to except that we woman are capable.

A cnc? What do you plan to use it for? Just curious.

I like your chairs -- the sunflower and the peacock are my favorites. Do you make other things besides Adirondack chairs?

I don't have problems with sales people or repairmen because I don't have a husband, so they have to talk to me. Years ago I think some of them were likely to talk down to women, but now most of them realize that women are a huge and important market, so they are polite.

    Hope you enjoy this site.

Welcome to the site. You chairs are interesting; I think i like the hummingbird one the best.

I don't have a problem with salesmen or repairmen either. I do have a husband but he does not usually go shopping with me.

Hello...My first time here also. I got involved with woodworking about 6 years ago thanks to my father. He's been doing various woodworking projects for many years. He taught me Intarsia, and I fell in love with it. I've been at it now for 5 years. Any Intarsia artist's here?

    Welcome Melanie and Chocolate1

Glad you found the site. That's some paint job on your Adirondack chairs! They are beautiful. I look forward to both your input here. -BarbS

    CNC

stands for Computer Numerical Control -- a milling machine that is controlled by a computer. These are commonly found in large production shops.

    Welcome Melanie and Chocolate1

Well welcome to both of you. As to clerks paying attention to the male in the party, I often have to get them to speak to my wife...she hears well and I am hard of hearing. Out for dinner, she often pays and it surprises me how often the waiter(ress) will bring the bill to me even though she passes him or her the credit card. Just plain dumb. And the tip will reflect it.
