    Sanding downdraft tables

How many of us have a dedicated work station for hand/power sanding? Did you build a separate table with vacuum hose attached, or are you using a unit built in to some other work area? How well does it work for you? -Barb S.

    RE: Sanding downdraft tables

I built a 24" x 36" x 6" box the top of which is 1/4" pegboard. There is a 2 1/2" hole in the center of one end into which is glued a 2 1/2 to 4" dust hose connector.

Works pretty well. It does not suck up every bit of dust, but gets most of it. Table size handles a good range of items, although I certainly have had larger things to sand. I try to do those outside on some sawhorses.

    RE: Sanding downdraft tables

    Barb,

One is planned in my barn to shop renovation this summer. It will be a true downdraft table.

Woodworker's Journal has a pretty good one in the current issue.

As an aside, one of my former clients in upstate, NY has the most dust free shop I've ever seen. EVERY tool is hooked to dust collection, Every worktable is a downdraft, and every single handsander has a vacuum hose. It is an amazing place.

    Just my two cents,

    Ralph
