I am interested in learning how to make small furniture (i.e., chair, book shelf, bench, etc.) and was wondering if there was anyone in Charlotte, NC that teaches wood working classes to beginners.

Just Beginning,

Check your area for woodworking stores. Rockler does not have a store in Charlotte, but does have a franchise store in Ashville. (not sure how far that is for you) The store's webpage has a big ad on it offering a class right now on building a side table! http://www.ashevillehardware.com/

Woodcraft does have a store in Charlotte, http://www.woodcraft.com/stores/store.aspx?id=507

These store offer classes at beginner and more advanced levels. They are excellent places to learn and meet other woodworkers. Check with them and see if there are woodworking clubs in your area too.

Hope this helps,

Ralph

Thanks for responding. I will look into both stores.

Check with your local community college. The North Carolina Community College system does offer woodworking classes. These are semester long classes and the price is less than $100 for an entire semester so it is a great value. I teach the intro woodworking class at Durham Tech and an average semester has about 10 students, half of which are usually women. It is a great value.

Best of luck,

Jennifer Chapman
