For the occasional small clamping job regular clamps are often too heavy or cumbersome - or you may not have enough of them. My trick is to take a 3" diameter piece of PVC pipe, slice it up on the band saw and then slit it (using a band saw) as shown below. The resulting "pinch clamp" provides plenty of pressure for small gluing jobs, but you may want to make a few softwood pads to protect your more delicate work.
